Joseph Chromy Winery, Tasmania, 4 Stars

Was not sure what to expect, yes we have tried the wine at the taste festival and the placed looked good in the tourist ads, but then somehow everything does.

My hope raised as we arrive to find the car park full and the restaurant has a busy but relaxed feel. After some confusion we are given a great table on the veranda on a fantastic sunny day in Tassie.

Food: Quail, Caesar salad and Salmon, surrounded by a Josef Chromy Pinot Noir.

All very nicely prepared.  Too much for 2 for lunch.

Fun: Generally lovely service, prompt efficient, a great time was had by all

Open for lunch

Flutes, Margaret River 2.0 Stars

Overall a big disappointment.

The service here, at the moment, is very poor.  I understand that they have had staffing problems, but really this is not what to expect.  It is about time that WA restaurants figured out that they need to do something real-time about this. When we had already waited 30 minutes for food, why not GIVE us some free bread and olives so the eventual hour wait would not seem so bad and we would probably have forgiven it.  As it was they just kept trying to SELL us more wine.

The food while good did not really meet expectations either an the portions are just a little small (something that is rare in Australia in general)

BrookWood Winery Margaret River

Nothing complicated here, simply restaurant, simply menu, focus on getting it right.

Forest Hill Winery, 4 stars, Cnr South Coast Hwy & Myers Road Denmark (4km west of Denmark) $110 for 2 inc wine

Great location, with views down the valley toward to ocean.

Nice ingredients and simple menu. My steak was over done a little which is difficult for me to understand or forgive for a place claiming to be up market. When asking for rare make sure you emphasis the rare. They could do with better vegetarian options I think.

Mostly others where very pleased with the food and wine.

Slow service and a strangely large number of flys in the room is a little off putting.

We will definitely return when next in Denmark.

Xanadu Restaurant 4 Stars

Xanadu Restaurant, Boodjidup Rd, Margaret River

Just a bit to California, a bit to polished, but undeniably excellent in a modern sophisticated style.

Difficult to fault the food and the service. Fresh local foods, excellent presentation, relaxed atmosphere, just a great place to spend some time after a hard days tasting.

Wise WInes

Fantastic view, some delicious wines, but only ok restaurant.  Mostly PPF - Pretend Posh Food.

Nice enough, but just misses the mark.

Cullens Winery, Caves Road, Cowaramup, (08) 9755 5277

We love this place. Sitting on the grass and watching the vines and the people play casual games. Lots of local organic produce.

Its generally busy on the weekend so go early or late if you want to get a spot and have not booked (open 7 days from 10am to 4.30pm).

Oak Over Wines - 3.5 stars

We were recommended this place by a friend

Overall it did not disappoint. The wines are really very good, surprisingly good. The wooded chardonnay and regular chardonnay in particular.

The location, outside on a sunny day could not be better......

Everyone seemed very happy with there food and the starter platter was excellent. My chicken was a little over garliced but, tasty generally. At $40 each including the wines it was great value and an excellent afternoon.

The service disappeared that the end of the afternoon, perhaps because we became a little merry and jokey with the staff. You know how things are funny when you are drinking and just not when you are aren't......

Anyway a great location and afternoon out. No much better that that Rose and Crown pub......

Lamonts Winery Restaurant for lunch 4 stars

The feel:

This place is busy which is nice. There is no clear direction as to where to go to get a table. What is wrong with a place that it can't have a "please wait here to be seated" sign? A lot of people that arrived and where obviously confused about this. Staff are initially a little sooty, which is always hard to take in your wait staff, although they did warm up as the service continued and they are obviously busy. The tables under a roof and under the trees are cool, but no views of the surroundings, views are always nice.

The food:

Tasty and simple, we had the squid, chicken, olives and bread & oilive oil, which was plenty for lunch for us. (The menu suggests that 3 dishes equal 1 main course for us this is not true).

The fulfillment:

Service is fast and efficient, no surprises no nonsense. They are busy and that shows in the rebrevity but not in the overall level of service.

The wine tasting is to close the restaurant, its busy and noisy and seems like it is used by people who are waiting to eat. This does not facilitate the tasting process.

The wines are excellent in general, the family reserve and ssb especially so. Note wines are cheaper off the web site than it is at the vineyard.

The final word:

Nice place, we will be back, once we have tried some of the other places
