Elephant & Wheelbarrow, Lake St, Northbridge
The basic pub, the same as a million others, pleasant enough, unlikely to get attacked, at least early in the evening. friendly American barman (from nr San Fransisco) reminds us how interactive and engaged North Americans are vs Australian bar staff.

Lord Nelson Brewing Pub, the Rocks, Sydney
Average, slow bland service, trading on it location and name. Great sitting outside in the sun.

Melbourne Pub, 2.5 stars
Lunch and after work drinks. Nice enough, nothing really special, but good pub food and beer in the M cafe and bar
Recently we had a lunch in the back room (main restaurant?) - this is really not good, dark and noisy and slow service. you need to check if you are making a booking - particularly for a larger group.

Gnarabar, Prevelly, Margaret River 3.5 Stars
What a great surprise, this place is really welcoming and bustling little place. Great fire and cold winters night.
The pork and the Lamb are both excellent. Service nice and good looking wine list.
Only small point is that they tried to take the plates away before everyone has finished which is never great.

The Generous Squire, CBD, 3 stars
Busy on Friday nights, surprisingly quiet at other times.
Modern bar, open spaces to stand around and have a good chat, with some relaxing areas. Overall a good place. Perth needs more of these.
That said a bit bland. The menu is ordinary. They are aiming to make ordinary food well and they have succeeded.
Fish and chips for lunch - order 1 and share.

Raffles Pub, Applecross, 3 stars
Downstairs at the Raffles on Canning Hwy.
I think we have probably been here 10 times. Surprised I don't seem to have written a summary of my experiences.
On the plus side: Food is consistently good, basic and not cheap but good. The steak sandwich is my choice most often. Location is great, nice way to spend a sunny afternoon or stop for breaky on a bike ride. Beer and wine selection is always sufficient to find something nice.
Other thoughts: Service is patchy. From great to very poor and actually rude on occasion. Actually now I think about when its good service its not very genuine.
The restaurant upstairs is ordinary (and expensive).

Subi Hotel, Subiaco, 2.5 stars
Overall a nice enough experience. Good service and pleasing room and reasonable looking, if unimaginative menu, good looking winelist.
I think to food is probably the let down. My Caesar salad was really ordinary. I need to see some fresh tasty lemon and anchovy dressing. This one had lots of salmon (Optional extra) and bacon, but no balance of flavours. All show but no real go.
My party had a similar experiences with there meals, OK but just a little disappointing.

Margaret River Hotel, Pub 3 stars
Nicely put together, efficient service, slightly pretentious menu.
We have eaten here a few times.
Most recently the Cesar salad and pumpkin salad where both good. Good amount dressing (not to much), tasty anchovies, overall very nice balance. Don't both with the chicken the basis salad is great.
Wines are kind of ordinary in the main restaurant area. Given the MR location you would expect something better and better value.

Kalbarri Motor Hotel, Kalbarri 3.5 stars
It is so nice to find a regional pub that has great food. This place is excellent food and value.
The decor is ordinary and basic, they could really do with a face lift, the everything else about this place is excellent.
Friendly prompt service, simple food well prepared. The Asian soup is fantastic and was the grilled fish.

The Paddo (2 stars)
The Paddington Ale House, 141 Scarborough Beach Road, Mount Hawthorn, 6016
Big and noisy with little character and smells of beer and cigarettes. If you group is less than 10 with any females, don't go.
The range of beers is of course excellent and the TV's everywhere makes it ok to watch a game.

Clancy's Fish Pub, Fremantle, 3 stars
Feeling
This place is immediately appealing. The wood floors, the older building, the long list of beers, and the smiling staff.
Fun
The atmosphere is great. Sitting outside of an evening sipping a excellent beer or inside on Sunday evening listening to a band.
Food
The food in ok, only ok I am afraid, I would think about eating elsewhere.

J.B. O'Reilly's, 99 Cambridge St Leederville
Beer is good, the club sandwich was good the chips where great.
Pre game atmosphere is good
The decor is a little tired and grubby. All this crap is just needs a good clean out, I guess it is kind of homely.
Update 1: Dinning room meals are very reasonable. A cut above the basic pub food that is all to common. The Sunday roast was tasty, although the veggies are overcooked and there is not enough gravy

Clancy's Fish Pub, Canning Hwy, 2.5 stars - (08) 9364 7322
Food
- Unfortunately our food experience was average to poor. The fish cakes are just ok, tasty, but dry with no real texture. A good guess would be manufactured and bought in. The squid rings where better but really not sensational. (beer is good)
- Take 2 - next time around had the toasted fish sandwich. Not good. Not Toasted, tasteless frozen fish, not much mayo. (beer still good)
- Take 3 - fish and chips. Not bad, better than the fish sandwich, good chips. (beer is good)
- Beer choices are excellent. I will be back for a drink, if not to eat
- Take 2 - confirmed - drink here - eat at the Thai up the road
- No complaints about the service, it is mostly self service, but the bar service is good and the food arrives within a reasonable time. Everyone seems friendly. Service is to often a issue in Perth and not so much here.
- Atmosphere is good and busy and relaxing
- The decor is a little off putting I am really not sure about the paper mash fish wall hangings. They probably looked good in the classroom of the kids that made them. Here they are just odd, not cool kitsch, odd.

Broken Hill Pub "They do good chips here" - 2 stars
Summary
Go for drink in the beer garden. Go somewhere else to eat. Beware of places that are pub of the year.
Detail
Renovated and new looking inside, but somehow out of character.
The service as seems all to usual for Perth is very average to crappy. Why can't they just pay a little bit of attention, rather than walk buy apparently scared to look up. I would rather go to the bar than wait for these slack asses. "They do good chips here" is a bit telling - no ownership or interest really in the place or the food, she dis-associates herself from the place. PS - chips are not that great - ordinary in fact.
The mussels where very very salty - they don't try there food before they send it out, if they did they would not send this out like this. What are they thinking? Overall the sauce was not bad, except for the salt.
The wine somehow was not good either. Poor wines and poor food. hummmm.
